Biography

Growing up Tomas got a strong introduction to flying through his father, who built a Rutan LongEZ in 1983. Flying this special aircraft all over europe, and going to airshows sparked an interest that was to become an interesting future. After starting flying gliders and then progressing to the PPL, a master degree within the field of Industrial Design Engineering was completed at the Oslo School of Architecture and design. Although the design subject in general covers all types of product development, Tomas gradually started working toward putting this process into aviation. Firstly by doing concepts on new aircraft at the University of Duisburg Essen (now Folkwang Hochschule) in Germany. And then later by entering an internship with Airbus / Diehl Aircabin in Laupheim (Germany) in 2008.

Being in south Germany an interesting relationship built with former Equator GmbH lead; G. Pöschel who introduced Tomas to the work done over 3 decades in unique aircraft design. Inspired by this the P2 project was started in 2009 with the aim to make an affordable, usable and efficient electric seaplane.

Proceeding the establishment of Equator Aircraft Norway SA (cooperative / open source company) and the preliminary P2 design in 2010, the project was awarded some funding in 2012 to go on with a hybrid system developed with Engiro an Aachen (Germany) based propulsion company. In 2016 it is expected that the first prototype will be completed, and that the small company will be able to head toward production.

Apart from designing aircraft, Tomas has also worked part time on designing award winning composite bicycle frames for a norwegian bicycle manufacturer, and medical equipment for the research agency SINTEF. He is a keen skier and bicyclist and flies the family LongEZ as often as possible.
