Urban Air Mobility – The dominance of land based commuting is coming to an end

New materials and technologies are enabling a push toward cleaner, quieter, urban air transport solutions and greater e-mobility. However, challenges from regulatory and environmental issues surrounding urban air operations and historical aviation experience, require us to consider the ‘bigger picture’ in order to deliver viable air transport solutions. Faradair® is a pioneering UK based company that has created the BEHA (Bio Electric Hybrid Aircraft), designed specifically to deliver an economically and environmentally sustainable regional flight vehicle that could deliver rates of return and market opportunity simply not possible with existing aviation technology.

Taking on-board lessons learned from decade’s worth of UAV, military and city airport operations, issues such as noise, emissions, safety, economic viability, regulation and certification are all much greater challenges than the device that actually gets you into the air. With over 100 years of collective aerospace experience, Faradair® has been a vocal champion of hybrid/electric air mobility opportunity since 2014. Its autonomous capable BEHA is one of the UK’s leading hybrid aircraft development programmes, creating an aircraft specifically designed for regional air mobility. As part of this programme the company has become involved in the development of a new hybrid propulsion system (Hybraero H600), to enable viable air transportation system opportunity beyond the range of existing battery technology from 2019 onwards.
