ElectroDucts are modular electric ducted fans poised to be a game changer in VTOL performance and smooth transition to efficient forward flight. The concept melds Trek Aerospace’s expertise with ducted fan aerodynamic optimization with Electro Aero’s expertise in efficient electric propulsion systems. The result is self-contained high performance propulsion units incorporating the duct, propeller, motor, controller, batteries and BMS. Various propeller options allow for bolt-on propulsion units optimized for VTOL (V-Prop), Ultralights (U-Prop), or Light Sport (L-Prop). This presentation will discuss 1) the projects background, goals & development; 2) the integrated propulsion system, i.e., ducted fans, electric motors, and lithium batteries; 3) the light weight structural configuration; 4) reliability and safety features; 5) manufacturing and operation costs; and 6) performance. The ElectroDuct80P (80cm internal diameter) prototype is currently under development, so the progress and commercialization opportunities will be presented.
